Mark on lens

Postby dara1982 » Sat Apr 20, 2013 10:00 am

Hi all

I noticed this marking on my lens today, its hard to get a good picture of it but it reflects the light and I cant clean it off.
Any idea what might have caused it. I leave a UV filter on the lens full time so I don't know how the lens itself got damaged.

Its the AF-S 70-300MM F/4.5-5.6G IF-ED

That's bizarre! I can't imagine how something like that could happen with a filter installed.

I, personally, would blame the kids.

Try with a thin cloth to feel the texture of it. Does it feel like a chip in the lens or rather like dirt or something? Or maybe you don't feel anything at all? Because that lens is not weather-proofed, maybe some dust got inside the lens, though I don't know if it's possible for such a large thing to get in.
