Olympus announce the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm f2.8 PRO

Postby Bob Andersson » Mon Sep 15, 2014 9:14 am

Hi folks,

Deja vue all over again, in a way, as the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm f2.8 PRO lens was first announced when the E-M1 was released but this time it's for real. The press release is here and the US product page is here. There's also a YouTube video introducing the lens here.

Here's the MTF chart:

I'm no expert but comparing it to the MTF chart of the sharpest telephoto zoom I've previously owned, the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM, I think this is even better and, don't forget, that Zuiko MTF chart is wide open at f/2.8. So maybe it's been worth the wait, although I could have made very good use of the lens this summer :( , with the lens expected to ship in the States in November. The only downside for most of us will be the cost but in this case it looks like you get what you pay for. I'm looking forward to the reviews...

Sony RX1R II. Olympus OM-D E-M1 + M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8, M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/2.8 + 1.4x T/C, Lumix 7-14mm f/4, Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH, M.Zuiko Digital 45mm 1:1.8
M.Zuiko Digital ED 75mm 1:1.8, Leica D Vario-Elmar 14mm-150mm f/3.5 - f/5.6 ASPH.

Re: Olympus announce the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm f2.8 PR

My only concern is that it's 50% longer physically and more than twice as heavy as the Pany 35-100mm f2.8, but if you need 100-150mm at f2.8...

Although, Pany supposedly has, or at least had, a 150mm f2.8 in development, too - Mark

Not sure where this thread is the appropriate place, but I just want to ID a typo in the very last sentence of your 40-150 PRO review, Gordon. It reads: "Ultimately the Olympus 45-200mm f2.8 Pro is a lens that more than lives up to its promise and comes highly recommended."

Otherwise, it's another stellar 'real life' review full of detail and insight not found elsewhere.
