E510 set to begin with

Hi there,
My brother has a Panasonic FZ100 and thinks about getting a DSLR after my father bought one too. He's everything but a pixelpeeper, and just wants a DSLR for the 'look at me' factor (while, not really, but I guess so ), for the shallower DoF, speed and easier MF.
The most important factor is the much greater IQ though.
Just because he's so much in love with his FZ100, he doesnt want to spend too much. And, fortunately, we came across a E-510 with twin lens-kit, Metz flash and LowePro bag. For $240.
My dad and I both use Canon, but as he wants just a good package without needing to upgrade (in the next 5 years at least), and then a Canon 20D/400D may be bought for the same price, but only with a 18-55 II lens, which is nowhere close to the Zuiko lenses! Are we right that he's better off with an Olympus?

I used to have the E-510 and had a lot of fun with it and the Oly 70-300. The 14-42 was unremarkable though. What's the other lens in the kit?

At the end of the day, the 4/3 DSLRs are a dead end. What you get now is likely to be all you get. It doesn't make sense to spend lots more on this system in the future. If that isn't going to be a problem, then it certainly is a low cost entry point to a DSLR.

Im almost 100% sure he wont be buying anything else for the camera, the tele is the other kit lens, the Zuiko 40-150. Were aware of the ''end of 4/3, Ill make it clear to him again though.

Well, it's there! Or here.
What a cute camera, it's.. really, small. The lenses, both 14-42 and 40-150 are much smaller than the Canon 18-55, and the quality is quite good. Quite good? The lenses are tack-sharp.
I think the E-410 (has no grip) is the ideal holiday-camera for those looking at the used market. The 510 is not that much bigger than a Panasonic FZ camera, and you have all those extras of DSLRs without having to buy an EVIL or something.
I wish... I hadnt bought a 350D months ago! $220 is a steal.

I would recommend this camera (maybe on eBay) for everybody who want a small sharp combo for on holidays.
