Nikon 300mm F2.8 AI IF ED

So I bought the MF version of this lens for around £600. A bargain considering how much the AF version costs. Only a quick snap shot for now. Will post more once I go out with it. It's pretty much dead easy to manual focus with the D700 and this lens. Not anywhere near as heavy as I thought it would be, I can easily hand hold it. *edit*, I got lazy and bought a monopod

Thanks man, I wouldn't say it's increased by THAT much. The new ones probably being the 105 Micro AI-S which replaced a 55mm Micro ai-s, a 16-35 F4 which I got for a trip to Rome, and the 300 f2.8 AI-S which I got for a trip I'm on at the moment in south africa (mainly just visiting family, but hopefully will use it for some proper wildlife while I'm here).

Went to World of Birds (am in cape town south africa), where they also had monkeys;

Took my D80, D700, and the 300 f2.8 IF ED with 1.4 TC out for a spin today.

These first three shots were with the D80 on the 300 f2.8 and TC. I was actually quite surprised at how easy it was to mf with this combo. Obviously the better the light, the easier it is, but still. I decided to take my monopod with me today as it's one thing to shoot street handheld, and another to shoot this stuff handheld. A lot more waiting with your eye at the viewfinder type thing. Iso was 320, shutter speeds were 1/2000th, wide open with TC.







The following shots are all D700 with the 300 f2.8 and TC. Iso 800 for the first two, Iso 2500 for the last two.
