In response to a thread in the Sony forums, here are some comparisons between the Sigma 24-70 and the Tamron 28-75 in terms of bokeh.

#1) Tamron 28-75mm @75mm f2.8

#2) Sigma 24-70mm @ 70mm f2.8

For all intents and purposes, you can't tell the photos apart. The bokeh in both the Sigma and Tamron lens is not too obvious or distracting.

One of the original issues raised was regarding the circular bokeh that results from out of focus points of light. I'm no expert but this should be present in all lenses. Shots #3 and #4 demonstrate this. The only thing you could say is that the discs are brighter in the Sigma photo, so that might be classed as more distracting.

The Sigma is CLEARLY a brighter lens. Were these taken at the same shutter speeds?

Yep. Same ISO, shutter and aperture. The flowers and the out of focus fairy lights were all shot at the same settings with different lenses, just seconds apart. I tried to keep the subject sizes the same too (70 mm vs 75 mm), but that was a little hard to achieve and so you get slightly different perspectives.

A quick portrait, focused on her eyes. Larger version available here

In case the EXIF info is missing, 70mm, f/2.8, ISO 400, 1/250s with flash bounced off the ceiling behind my left shoulder.

I've had this lens for 3 months now and I'm loving it. Fast, silent, nails focus every time.

Probably my next lens, I fell in love with the sigma 2.8's since I got my 70-200 :)
I take pictures so quickly, my highschool was "Continuous High".
