Hi folks, and welcome to March's assignment. Last month's assignment drew 11 entries, let's try keeping the upward trend going.

This month's theme in my own choice: Open. Open to any interpretation.

I'll start the ball rolling with one I took yesterday afternoon. It was taken from Wordsworth point on Ullswater where I had just arrived to check out the daffodils (not far out of the ground and only a few beginning to bud). I saw a glint in the air down the lake and it was this RAF trainer flying up the valley. I had to change settings pretty quickly but got half a dozen shots, of which this was the first and the one I liked best. The aircraft was against the hillside to the left for the rest. The misty edge to the slope coming down from the right is as photographed.

Unusual for me to get up at 1/4 to 5 but I wanted to capture surfers on a 3m surf and I came across 20 + phototogs shooting the sunrise. Taken 15/3.

Although a jpeg, I adjusted it in camera raw and decided to leave it as shot with natural sunrise colours and shadows.

Toying with a thick catalogue of tools and equipment I feathered the colour-coded pages and was rather pleased by the effect.

This stack of clay items in a roadside shop in Sri Lanka are actually pot bases with a space beneath for lighting a fire. The village people use them in preference to expensive bottled gas or kerosene stoves. The potter just happens to have stacked them in a way that makes these smiley faces .... despite being imprisoned!
