December 2013 Assignment - Submissions

Although technically not one of my `best` photo's taken during 2013, it's one of my favourites. A reminder of the lovely long Summer we had.
My moneyboss reading/dozing in the garden. Taken through 2 sets of double glazing. Frame, crop & slight vignette added in picasa.

I have titled this "The Wheels Aren't Always Turning"
It was taken at a friend's property. They are ranchers/farmers/loggers with lots of machinery and equipment from years gone by.
They have made a lovely gated display area where I took this photo. It is about 11pm, with the only light being from the fire, and the spot light that highlights this wheel and flowers.
I don't know what photoshopping I've done. I'm new to Lightroom (Photoshop is confusing to me), so use it lightly.

While the shot might not be my best one of 2013, it was one of my favorites. The lighting was amazing in that spot, sunlight was coming down through the trees in small patches, like spotlights, so it was hard to catch the ducks at the right places, a lot of the shots there are ducks with either their heads or their tails in the shadows. This one happened to be going across a small patch of light when I luckily caught it while it was being fully illuminated. I loved the way it looked.

Here's my favourite from 2013, taken not so very long ago on holiday in Brazil. A group of us were having lunch in a beach side cafe, so I wandered on to the beach with my camera while our lunch was being prepared. I spotted an interesting bit of log sticking out of the sand and every now and again the waves would come in right up to it, so I though it could make an interesting photograph. This was my second attempt and I'm pleased to say that not a drop of water got on my camera or lens, I however, got soaked!

I thought it looked like some kind of sea foam bird rising from the shore break.

Not my best photo of the year but definitely one of my favorites and the one voted favorite by my family. This is my first post so here goes...

Just a quick snapshot as I was leaving for work one afternoon. It had been an overcast dreary day and just before sundown the sun dropped below the clouds and cast a beautiful yellow glow across an otherwise menacing scene.
