I have been bidding on Nikon SB-80DX flashguns, on-line, with mostly good luck thus far. The next step will be radio triggers, though the SB-80DX is certainly useful as-is on my FM3A and F6 film cameras. The radio triggers will allow these older Nikon flashguns to be used as remote flashes with my digital Canons, too. (Older Canon flashguns do not have the ports to make them as readily compatible with radio triggers.)

I got the idea of using SB-80DX flashguns from Zack Arias, who has a blog and a quite good DVD available. These flashguns are just recently starting to become somewhat collectible, so it would have been better for me to have started buying them several months ago.

Just bought an eyecup replacement for my canon eos 3. This time I'm gonna glue that darn thing!

I could need one for my EOS 33 - it's still there but it's broken. I guess an used EOS 3 (= upgrade from EOS 33) isn't much more expensive than that eyecup alone.

FISH!

Postby RexGig » Sat Dec 03, 2011 2:04 am

I just traded a couple of Canon 220EX flashguns and a Tamron tele-converter, plus quite a bit of $USD and walked out of Camera Co-op with a Nikkor 16mm AF 2.8D Fisheye.

I reckon it is now time to end this acquisition phase! With these FX Fisheyes being notably rare at camera dealers, it seemed logical to act, in spite of the cost. I prefer to try a lens on the camera before buying, and the Nikon F6 has no micro-focus adjustment ability, so after lengthy consideration, over several weeks, I made the purchase. A fisheye lens had been in the back of my mind since seeing fisheye images in National Geographic Magazine as a child, decades ago. Now at age fifty, the dream is realized.

First impression: It is amazingly small! I am used to UWA lenses being rather large.

I just bought a USB WLAN card as my Netbook's built in WLAN card is defective. What the heck should I do with a netbook that can't get into the "net"?
It's slow, small (low resolution so many programs just don't work), has a bad keyboard... the only things it's good for are the pretty nice battery life and the possibility to get into a network, which my cannot.

The next things are a card reader, a class 10 8GB SD card and 8 eneloops for my nephew who will get a Powershot SX 20 for christmas. He already has a camera bag. Now he'll soon be perfectly equipped. Hey, I mean: What child at the age of 11 has such a nice camera equipment? 20x zoom range, HD movie mode with stereo sound, fast SD card, eneloops (don't know how I could survive without eneloops until two years ago; until then I didn't know what a huge difference other batteries could make).
Maybe I should give him my old Nissin Speedlite Di466 as well? Personally I'm not really using it any more since I have the 580EX II.

Finally some kitchen equipment for my sister's birthday this week.

Of course I clicked the "partner store"-Amazon link ;)

Congratluaions, Bjorn! Billingham makes remarkably good bags! Crumpler and Think Tank bags are what I use, if not a Pelican Case, but a local dealer sold Billingham for a while, and I remember them being beautiful and very well-constructed.

I think I still have a Billingham product on my Amazon Wish List. Beautiful bags!

5D2 via Amazon affiliate link.

I've been um-ing and err-ing about the 5D2 for a while. With its lower than ever pricing on Amazon of £1461.50 and free delivery, I bit.

Do I need it? No... but it will effectively double my lens collection and I can finally unleash the full potential of the fast primes now.

Expect the 5D3 to be announced early January.
