Got some pictures printed at boots and some havent come out well, kinda like pixeley yet some are pin sharp? What could it be any ideas?

It's quite hard to know what you're talking about without any examples to illustrate your point. Perhaps you could point us to the photos that aren't turning out as expected?

Well i couldnt really show you becuase they have been printed and posting them up on the net wouldnt work because they look fine.

Its almost like the pictures arnt very sharp in detail.

Is it possible the printing machine at boots could have done some bad prints?

Yes, it is possible that the machine in Boots was designed for good all round consumer results. There is usually a disclaimer (terms and conditions) that you are obliged to accept prior to submitting prints to the photolab, with most retailer services. The disclaimer states that you are not allowed to use the service for professional use (I guess that this is to prevent complaints towards results for larger wedding photos).

I asked on a similar thread about this, and Gordon reccomended using higher end photolabs like Metro and Photobox.

First of all calibrate your screen so it displays accurate colors.

You should at least print at 72DPI but for best results I recommend you use 300DPI.

Prints will loose a bit of saturation, contrast and sharpening so you should prepare the image for printing in photoshop (or whatever program you use).

Do this by using an unsharp mask to sharpen it slightly, improve contrast a bit and up the saturation a bit too.

It's a bit of trial and error. After printing a few pictures you'll find out what works and what doesn't.
