Very nice! I recall the same event taking place last years, just before I left Queenstown for my one year trip away which has ended up looking like a relocation back to the UK!

Anyway, during the event I was positioned by pure coincidence up at the Skyline balcony, testing the Nikon D800. I'd no idea what was going on, but noticed I'd captured it when reviewing my test shots!

If you look at Gordon's exif data on the Flickr page, you'll see his pic was taken on April Fool's Day last year, 2012.
I was going to say Gordon, you have your days messed up, his pic must have been taken on the Friday, as there was specifically a demo day in Queenstown Bay for the tourists and others that day. My pic was taken on the Sunday, the second day of competition in Frankton Arm. AFAIK there were no racing boats in Queenstown Bay over the weekend. Also, the Sunday was alternating between cloudy/rainy/sunny.
Gordon's pic shows a perfect day in Queenstown, which is alarmingly common, just not on that day.

i think they come across to Cromwell on Lake Dunstan as well... will keep my eye open for the event !
