New Years day at Snapper Rocks and a great start of the year for surfers with the surf at 2 metres +. It was mostly overcast early on, hence the lousy coloured skies.

I'm not sure if D’bah is better than Snapper, both seem to be always packed. D’bah surfers are to far away for my 200 lens, I have a 70-300 old model but it is to soft and heavy cropping on the 200 gives me better close ups and IQ.

I came across a guy with a sigma 500 and the same camera as me, he took some shots for me on my card as I was thinking of getting one, glad I didn't. The shots were as soft as my 300, not sure what experience he had as he rattled off 6 fps. Looking at the exifs he was shooting auto and basic quality fine, I was surprised some as the speed recorded was 1/350 sec at 500mm. This makes me think the siggy does not communicate to well with the Nikon.

Good news is, we're near the end of winter and 23-27c but the surf is less than 2 foot even down to 6 inch at the moment. The Pacific looks like a lake, hope you had a good time downunder.

I had the best time of my life Down Under, and had an even better time up at Noosa (I have two brothers in Surfers which is why I was there). Hated coming back to the UK, but the missus doesn't want to move out to Oz - otherwise I'd have come out years ago
