Great thread idea WestCoast... here is one close to your neck of the woods from a few years back... Spirit Island in Jasper National Park. It was voted many years ago by international media as the place which best represents the spirit of the Rockies. One of the first people to discover it was heard to say that "If the Gods were ever to hold court on Earth this would surely be the place". You need to visit there to truely appreciate this quote. If I ever go back I'm gonna try a panoramic shot here as the mountains in the background carry on around both sides of the picture creating a huge natural catherdral which is where I think the inspiration for the quote above came from.

Spirit Island on Maligne Lake is quit a treat and has graced many a magazine cover.
If anyone hasn't seen a glacier lake with it's emerald waters before, it needs to be on their bucket list.

Sunset, over the copper mine. Bingham Canyon Mine is the world's largest man-made excavation. The mine is 2 3/4-miles across and 3/4-mile deep. It is so big that it can be seen from outer space. Taken yesterday.
Westcoast mentioned the emerald colored waters of a Glacier lake.. This is Peyto Lake in Banff. The two images below were taken less than 2 minutes apart to show the fluctuations in the surface coloring due to glacial runoff. Last time I went here I spent 2 hours just watching the surface change tones. Next time I go I gotta take a DSLR.
These pics are 5 years old.. both were taken with the Sony DSC-P100 as it was a business trip and I had no plans on getting out for pictures. I dont make that mistake anymore and my cameras now go with me everywhere.

And while we are talking glaciers... Athabasca Glacier (foreground) from a few years ago. Cool place to visit if you are in Jasper... they actually allow you to walk on the glacier. The Icefields Parkway has to be the coolest highway I have ever travelled. It's about 240 km long and stretches between Lake Louise Banff and the town of Jasper. The scenery is amazing and any landscape photographer's dream. Peyto lake pictured above is on this highway as well.
Going through all these old pics I think it is time to get there again this summer for a weekend .
