Hi guys,

Recently I went to Central America for 10 weeks and have only managed to upload my photos some 5 weeks after my trip!

Here's a selection of my favourites, I appreciate any feedback (including constructive) on composition, editing etc. Apologies the editing is a little rough, normally when I can get around to printing, I re-do them :)

All photos taken on Canon 60D with f4 24-105 L series.

Some nice images there Richard! I like your use of color (e.g. "The local cafe scene" or "Symmetry"). As an avid street photographer, I do miss a bit of a human element though. To me, some of the pictures look a little empty.

Nice set Richard. My personal favourites are the colourful Nicaragua pictures, followed by the other South American pics (I like the textures in those pictures). The best of the US is number 1, with the reflection in the water.
I hadn't really noticed the missing human element until I read Bjorn's post. He does have a point, but I still like the Nicaragua pictures as they are. Thanks for posting.

Nice set Richard. Liked the colours very much.
Character of these places captured nicely.
But I too feel that inclusion of some human factor could have put much life into the shots differentiating them from photos of say...staged sets.
What am trying to say is - for photos from street, it is the inclusion of living activity/lack of activity that makes a shot freezing moments in time. But with no living factor, the subjects appear timeless - same 2 days before and same 2 weeks after.
But these are just my understanding and feeling :)

Regards,

Thank you all the feedback, it's all very constructive! I am guest a little hesitant to take photos of people still, haven't quiet worked how to approach it. I have heard the old saying "ask for forgiveness, not permission" but particularly in some of the Central American countries I didn't feel as confident to take photos of people (poor Spanish didn't help!).

Anyway I did experiment with some silhouettes at the end of the trip (see below). Not quiet the human factor you guys are referring to, but hey it's a start! (baby steps :D)

Love the second picture Richard. The human element there is just the way I would want it, especially because of the motion blur. Great shot!

I have no clue as to why I hadn't seen this before, but you have some great shots in there! I'm not a street photographer so I might not know as much, but I don't feel the human element is needed all the time, though in a large series of shots like this I feel some shots with people on them are sort of needed. And on the second shot from this last post, I have to agree with Bjorn, it's a great picture, I find the motion blur very interesting. Good job :)

Very creative set! I love your use of colour in the first lot. I'm a big fan of silhouettes but part of me thinks they are cheating because they are too easy - however, your skateboarder doesn't fall in to that category - it's wonderful! Love the blurry couple on the beach as well - it takes a lot of confidence in your creativity to do something like that, well done!
