New X system camera teaser

Hi folks,

I've been having a look at the new X system camera teaser web-page. It's always a bit of a gamble trying to work out dimensions from such images but, on the assumption that the attached lens is the XF35mmF1.4 R, I reckon the camera body is about the same width as the X-E2 (and the Olympus OM-D E-M1 or the Sony A7/A7r). Of course it isn't possible to work out the height or depth from the single image available. So will the new camera be a repackaged X-E2 or can we look forward to something even better? I'd expect the latter, if only because there's little to be gained by Fuji bringing out a model which will compete directly with that camera. Will this new form factor be the X-Pro2 or is that something else entirely? So many questions but at least there's only about a week or so to wait before we know...

If the hot-shoe can be used as a reference I am getting some inaccurate, but plausible numbers:
128 x 100 x 35 mm

XE-2 dimensions from DPreview:
129 x 75 x 37 mm

The height increase corresponds fairly well considering the new implementation of the viewfinder.

Really looking forward to this release as I have been debating jumping ship from Canon to Fujifilm recently, weather sealing is one of those things that ignites my interest even further, but dare I say that I kinda would like a better movie mode as well. The Magic Lantern wizards and their trickery on the Canon cameras really sets the bar a bit further up.
On top of that, a further improvement of the already awesome sensor they have would be absolutely sublime as well.
My current hands-on experience with Fujifilm cameras is fairly limited, I have only tried the X100, but found the viewfinder really off putting. I don't expect that with the higher resolution OLED ones.

It certainly looks interesting in the teaser, I like it's design. Looking forward to hearing some specifications.

Fuji's system will now have 5 different bodies and a logical selection of lenses that fill all the major goals for its intended purpose, which I would say was street, doc, reportage, and travel.

If I didn't already have (literally!) a handful of m43 lenses, I'd be seriously tempted by this although while mostly excellent, those Fuji primes are all pretty pricey.

I'm buying an OMD E-M1 camera next week, but I hope this new Fuji doesn't cloud matters!

Mirrorless Rumors have more photos and a (rumoured) specification list which you can see and read here.

They suggest:

• bigger (x77 magnification) and better (high performance) EVF
• APS-C X-Trans sensor II (16MP)
• support for the UHS-II SD-card for super-fast writing speed
• dual SD-Card slot
• 8fps with AF tracking
• weather sealed body
• tilt screen
• SLR-type (Fujica) design
• name: X-T1
• WiFi
• ISO up to 51200

The page also suggests that the price will be somewhere between that of the X-E and X-PRO lines. Does that mean that this isn't the X-Pro2?

The new camera certainly looks exciting but if size is an issue then although the body may be compact one also has to look at the size of the lenses one is likely to buy. Comparing the FUJINON XF35mmF1.4 R and the m4/3rds LEICA DG SUMMILUX 25mm / F1.4 ASPH (similar FoV) there's not a lot in it but the m4/3rds system does have a number of smaller, albeit dimmer, options. The reviews of the X-T1, when they finally arrive, will make interesting reading but I somehow doubt that the latest and greatest from Olympus, Panasonic or Sony will crumble before its feet but I'd guess it will be comfortable in such company.

P.S. I still find it extraordinary that one can dismiss Canon and Nikon from such discussions but until and if they decide to compete seriously in the CSC market they are hardly worth mentioning, despite the fact I just did!

I am paying closer attention to Fuji now! An X Pro 1 has long been on my "nice-to-have" list, and I have been reading the reviews of each new Fuji XF and Zeiss Touitt lens.

I am quite positive about it, positive enough that I had to go and try out an XE-2 and Sony A7. Now this is my first time with the OLED EVF, this was both negative and positive. The OLED itself is great, large, great contrast and absolutely no sign of screen door effect. However, the image on the XE-2 does tear and lag behind, the A7 is similar but with moire and aliasing to boot. Wonder how much the XT-1 has improved on this, because that actually becomes a deal breaker to me. (I do enjoy using V-Sync in computer games because of tearing and also frame limiting)
