Beauty dish - white or refective?

Postby Trevor Harris » Tue Dec 27, 2011 8:22 pm

All things being equal, what's the difference between a white or reflective beauty dish? I'm asking because I'm planning to make one myself and am wondering what type of mixing bowl to use :-)

I would like to comment here but I am only talking from what I have seen in the tutorials/DIY projects I have hunted for on how to build exactly this.

And from what I can see......

Build the dish itself from White with the internal reflector silver or mirrored. So that the maximum amount of the light is passed back onto the curved surface of the dish....but then the curved dish being white reflects an even spread of light rather then a reflective curve which may focus the light and give a banding effect where the light eventually lands.

Well that's my theory anyway....But if I am wrong I would like to be told... :)
