Help - Flickr? Photobucket? Others?

Postby XNavyHM3 » Sun Dec 02, 2012 3:48 am

I am new to the photosharing sites. I do use Flickr for work purposes, and due to privacy issues, do not want to also use it for my personal pictures. I have been checking out some of the personal links posted here, but am leary of the Flickr accounts as I do not want them linked back to mine. I opened a Photobucket account specifically so I could share pictures here, but I am unable to upload my best pictures. (I am not sure if there is a size limit there?) I do, however, like how easy it is to share a picture from there with everyone here. I do not usually spend a whole lot of time on the computer, and the time it has been taking just to upload pictures to share them here has been very frustrating. Reception at my house is unreliable at best, and it is not uncommon to lose the connection in the middle of uploading a picture. I've also made repeated attempts to upload favorite pictures. Photobucket will often say that my upload was successful, and the picture was added to my library; but when I go to the library, the picture is not there. This has only happened to the higher quality pictures (which, of course, are the ones I'd like to share here.)

I am using an old Compaq laptop with Windows 7, and almost all the memory is filled with photos. (I also keep all my SD cards for the day this laptop just gives up.) So far, all the pictures I've shared here have been unedited.

I've been thoroughly enjoying reading the posts here, and looking at everyone's pictures. I felt at home here the first time I logged on. I'm hoping to contribute more. Any suggestions on easy ways for me to get my pictures from my laptop to here would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Shawn

Can you not just open up another Flickr account? Oh wait, you must have a paid account for the higher res pics. Um, in that case, the best (free) option I can think of is Facebook. (Pics cannot exceed 2,048 pixels on any axis, which is more than double the recommended guideline for posting inline here.) Although, in theory, you're not supposed to open a FB account under a pseudonym.

Also, no EXIF data on FB - Mark
