Mac Terminal

Hi everyone,

Recently I've been using Mac's Terminal app and I've found it quite useful to do various things. I've searched the internet for useful commands, tips and tricks, etcetera.
I'd like to know if any of you Mac users use Terminal and if you do, I'd appreciate a lot if you could leave me some useful commands that I could use. Also, if someone asks for it of course, I can leave you some interesting commands that I use :)

PS: I own a computer running Tiger and another one running Leopard, so commands that are exclusive to newer OS X like Snow Leopard and Lion won't work. Also, if you own Linux, I think most commands that work there also work in Macs.

EDIT: I also forgot to say that if this post doesn't belong in here, feel free to change it, I wasn't really sure where to put it.

I use it when I need it... similar to the Windows command prompt - if a program's only method of running through a text-based interface. It's definitely powerful for tinkering with hidden/important bits quickly mind you, but I'm not as much of a "power user"/tinkerer as I used to be.

No, I don't remember any. Whenever I needed to tinker with it, I just did a google search to find the solution. Never bothered trying to remember it or write it down.

Mac OS X is based on BSD Unix so any reference for command line instructions for this will help. You can also use the man (or manual command) followed by a valid instruction to get a full description of how it can be used e.g. man cd

You do have to be careful as you can do some damage to the Mac OS by changing file permissions or deleting items it needs.

Oh yes, thank you. I know to be careful with some commands like rm or sudo, especially sudo because this does root commands that you're not normally supposed to do, and if its any help at all for anyone reading this post, NEVER use the sudo rm -rf / command, it will literally render your computer useless.
