I am a newbie to cameras and have been using a Panasonic FZ78 but find it bit bulky so was wondering what would be a good alternative? I take mostly photos of surfing and need a decent zoom, I am going to France on a skiing holiday and will be taking my camera. What is best for snow and the mountains etc for close ups and zooming shots?

Have you looked at the Panasonic TZ60/ZS40?

There is now also the Panasonic TZ70/ZS50.
Like the TZ60, it is small and has a 30X zoom.
