24" - 16:10 format...

Postby msrock » Wed Oct 06, 2010 5:03 am

Got a new monitor. Phillips – nothing fancy or expensive…
At first I got a 24” 1920x1080 16:9 screen but then exchanged with a 24” 1920x1200 16:10…
Man, I love this 16:10 format!! Anyone else liking the 16:10 and for what reasons?

Hi msrock,

I too have a monitor of that size and resolution - in my case a Samsung. And I love it. More pixels is just better, when it comes to monitors.

I'd get a 30 inch monitor with higher rez if I had the spare cash for that.

Great for photo editing !

Cheers :-)

IPS monitors are the best tool for editing, not sure what kind your Phillips is. Anyway, enjoy it as much as possible :)

My 17" notebook screen uses 1920x1200 natively. I like wide angle :) Anything more "squarer" looks odd to me.

I also have 1920x1200 24 inch at home. I think I prefer it over 16:9 as I find vertical screen estate valuable, more so than horizontal, but not enough to go portrait orientation! Having said that, the laptop I ordered has a 1080 display...

Specifically for photos, 16:10 is closer than 16:9 is to the typical 3:2 of DSLR formats.

To put them in perspective of "wideness":

1.78 16:9 widescreen TV
1.60 16:10
1.50 3:2 typical DSLR
1.33 4:3 pre-widescreen displays, FourThirds format, compacts?
Canon DSLRs: 7D2, 7D1, 5D2, 1D, 600D, 450D full spectrum, 300D IR mod
Lenses: EF 35/2, 85/1.8, 135/2+SF, 70-300L, 100-400L, 100L, MP-E 65, EF-S 10-18, 15-85
3rd party: Zeiss 2/50 makro, Samyang 8mm fisheye, Sigma 50/1.4A, 150 macro, 120-300 f/2.8 OS
Compacts: Sony HX9V, Fuji X100.
