HDR software?

Postby richie_lyons » Sat Jul 14, 2012 11:23 am

Hi guys,

What software do you use for HDR? I've taken a landscape scene with 3 different photos and wanted to try it out (they are all RAW).

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks,
Rich

Hi there.

There are multiple ways to create a HDR shot. On the forums here you can find some great threads with some really useful tips.

Most people start by using the trial version of photomatix or if you have a canon with the canon provided software DPP then this has a HDR function which is very simple to use.

Canon 550D, Canon EFS 17-85 IS USM, Canon EF 75-300 IS USM, Canon EFS 10-22mm USM, Canon EF35mm F2.

Got some of the gear but really still no idea...:)

Richie_Lyons - If you don't have a good HDR program, you might like to try a free one, "Luminance". There are new Windows 32 and 64 bit - and Mac 64 bit - versions, 2.3.0, just released. (Also the Linux Qtpfsgui ones.)

- "...Thanks to the important work made by Franco and Daniel, this new release brings into Luminance HDR a brand new colour management system, improved JPG, TIFF and PNG readers and writers and a new image alignment tool for RAW files as well (plus many other small changes). Since the beta1, minor flaws and bugs have been fixed. Moreover, we ported the new colour management system from LCMS to LCMS2...."

Information and download links are at: - http://qtpfsgui.sourceforge.net/

Manual at: - http://osp.wikidot.com/qtpfsgui-manual

And a 7.44 min video at: - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4kO-UyX71w

Have you got one that satisfies your need? If not, you may have a try with HDR Darkroom. It is easy and convenient to use, which may suit hdr beginners well. Besides combining photos to create one hdr, the function of alignment and ghost reduction can deal with common problems you may meet during photo processing. Hope you have fun with hdr.
