Have no advice since I don't have an ipad ... but your photos are very, very beautiful ... especially the first one which I find incredible ... to be able to see the path of a plane from this perspective --- stunning! Thank you.

I absolutely love the first shot - beautiful colours and really well composed. It's easily one of the best photos I've seen this year.

I have to be honest and say the third shot isn't for me. To be as constructive as I can with my criticism, I don't think black and white or the grainy effect work very well in it.

The last one is so grainy as there was a layer of light cloud between us and them, it was the only way to get any detail out of it.

Thanks for the comments guys!

The AF-S 18-55mm, for some reason I find it does better than the 300mm?

I don't have any experience with the kit lens, but the 70-300 is a great lens imho. Its great at 70mm and gets progressively worse to 300mm. I rarely use it beyond 200mm. VR is effective and focus, while not über fast, is accurate and doesn't hunt.

I'll ask again, how did you manage to get above the plane to photograph it? I can't imagine 2 commercial planes flying so close to each other!

Well I guess that means you were pretty darn close to the planes

The A330 was 1000ft above and the A340 (black andwhite) was 2000ft, thats standard separation. West bound traffic fly at even levels ie 32 34 36000ft etc and east bound odd levels 33 35 37 etc

Hi dara1982,

Ah, brings back memories and I've been retired for over ten years now. :)

But in thirty years I don't ever remember seeing the sky coloured quite like that of the second shot. :? Vignetting aside, do you have an explanation?

Bob.

P.S. The first one is my favourite too.

Ah, Photoshop explains all.

Trident, Tristar (L-1011), 747 (-136/-236/-436) and, for all too brief a time towards the end of my career, Concorde. Just lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time but even at 60,000' the sky was never that colour!

I'm with most people already posted, I like the first one best, then No. 2 and then 3. I actually quite like the effect in No. 3.

I flew a DHC Chipmunk for about 15 minutes once (sorry, I'll get my coat  ).
