Iceland was allays one of the worlds destinations i wanted to get to. A little too far away now !
From a geologists POV its a bit like NZ and a mecca for geology. Probably one of the only places on earth where you can stand with one foot on two different oceanic plates !
Your second shot is a great geology shot.
The strange ripply formation and broken blocks is a typical lava flow formation called "A' a'" pronounced ah-ah.
Pretty typical of basaltic lava flows found in iceland and hawaii.
If you had taken the shot whilst it was being formed -which was probably not that long ago ! it would have been around 1000Â° under foot
