Newcastle-Upon-Tyne - Looking for ideas please

Postby Phil_Lowe » Fri Apr 10, 2009 7:29 pm

I have just this minute discovered that I am going to Newcastle tomorrow to pick something up so I've decided to make a day trip out of it. Batteries on charge as we speak. I've never been before so if there are any locals on here with any visitors tips then they are more than welcome. (Or anybody who has been before for that matter).

In the meantime I shall do some online research.

TIA :)

The famous arched Tyne Bridge (like a mini Sydney Harbour Bridge) would probably be my first target...

Hi.
As Gordon said, the Tyne bridges and the Quayside in general is a fantastic site.

Grey"s monument and Waterstones bookshop {the most beautiful bookshop building in the world}

Newcastle Keep {go up on the roof}

The Millenium bridge on the quayside and the new Sage music building.

The Black Gate beside the Keep.

Go on to the Tyne bridge go to the left hand side of the bridge as you walk over the bridge {heading towards newcastle on north side, Gateshead is at the south side of the bridge}
When you"re on this side take a photo of the street below and if you have a wide angle you can get a massive amount of interest in,including Keep and cathedral and wonderful streets and buildings below.

Newcastles Vampire rabbit behind St Nicholas cathedral its above a doorway.

The Theatre royal area and Grey street in general is beautiful.

Its only a very small city centre but its a great place.

It used to be a real powerhouse of a city,then the torries got elected!

Newcastle central station is a fantastic train station.

Have a good day.
