A nice day in Barrie Ontario

Postby jka » Tue Nov 04, 2008 3:22 pm

While I was there last week I went down to their waterfront and took a few pics, it was a cool, crisp morning.
Barrie is a city of about 140,000 located on Kempenfelt Bay which is part of Lake Simcoe. It has clean air and the water in the lake is clear and cold. A nice place........

Hi jka,

lovely shots - it shows the waterfront very much as I remember it. My mother-in-law lives in Barrie. When we went there, I was swimming off of the pier in your first pic and was literally seconds from getting hypothermia in the dead of the summer. The water is soooooo cold..had to sit in the sun for about 15min before I could feel anything again..lol.

Cheers :-)

LahLahSr........Thanks for the good words.

My son moved there last year for work....he's loving it.

The air quality and the environment in general are fantastic. Barrie takes advantage of the waterfront and keeps it maintained, the park area and interlocking stone walking paths on the other side of the marina are beautiful. I here you about the water temperature, wife and I were at the beach this past summer, your ankle bones start to get cold as soon as you step in!....

Cheers back atchya...... :)

Hey, nice photos! I was kind of surprised to come on to the forums and see pictures of the (relatively small) city I live in.

chpa......You have a nice spot there.

I'm down in Windsor, we don't have that clean fresh air down here. When your driving west on the 401 as you get closer to Windsor you can see the smog hanging over the city, especially in the summer.

Cheers.....

I've tried roller-blading once and it was along this very waterfront! Barrie's a great place we used. My cousin lives there (he's a cop) and we used to visit him sometimes when we were working in Algonquin Park. We lived for a while in Arowhon (near Huntsville) and then in TO itself. Loved all of them. There was a particular pub (bar) in Barrie I liked but I've long since forgotten it's name, lol. Having been positive, we went for an Indian meal once in Barrie too - it was awful! The worst Indian food I've ever tasted.

Nice to see so many Canadians joining the boards.

Thanks zorro for chiming in, really interesting to hear feedback like that from somebody so far away.

It really is amazing how small the world is getting....you post something on this board and you just never know who you'll hear from.

Happy New Year to ya.... :)

So......How's the roller-blading going?

Cheers.

I was like an ostrich on ice, lol. It's not going...period. You're right about the world shrinking though. I had a mate who disappeared 9 years ago (and I do mean disappeared) and since then I've lived in three different places - last week he phoned us! Great to hear from him as we had kinda given up. Turns out he's now living in the Netherlands and happily too. Life can be full of surprises.

Nice shots. I lived in Barrie for about 5 years. Now I am in Waterdown near Hamilton.

I have some shots I could add to your list last time I was up there with my D80.

Cottonmouth....

It's interesting how many people on this forum have a connection to Barrie. By all means if you want to add some shots feel free, I would like to see them for sure. My son moved up there last year for work and he is loving it, as am I when I go up to see him.

Thanks for the reply.
Okay....Let's see those pics...... :)

Cheers....Joe

Nice shots Cottonmouth!

Ahhh, Summer in Barrie........beautifull.
Thanks for posting, reminds me of why I like that place so much....Can't wait to go back.

Here's one of the fountain in dry dock, and one more of the marina just for good measure.... :)

Cheers..........
